The German Open Championships are the largest dance sport competition in the world and have been held in Stuttgart since 2004. In three different halls of the Liederhalle, numerous competitions are held for couples and individual dancers in the disciplines of standard, Latin, ten-dance, boogie-woogie and wheelchair dance.
But it is not only just 5 days of competition. Lots of volunteers and professionals are working hard to make this the event-to-be every year. From ateliers and shops that sell and showcase their products to media coverage, supporters who scream their lungs out, parents who assist their children in every way possible, judges who are in for group selfies and so much more.
That’s why every year I try, besides covering the competitions, to also catch a few of those scenes. It really shows that the German Open is so much more than just a dance competition.
